Take the Divest Invest Individual pledge and help send this important message to fossil fuel companies.
Climate change is real. It is here. Now is the time to act. I pledge to personally take action toward sustainable solutions for the future. Where I have direct control over the individual companies I invest in, I will:
- Make no new investments in the top 200 oil, gas, and coal companies.
- Sell my existing assets tied to these oil, gas, and coal investments within 3-5 years.
- Invest in a sustainable and equitable new energy economy.
Where I do not have direct control over the individual companies in my investments – such as in an employer 401K, mutual fund, or ETF – I pledge to invest in fossil free alternatives as soon as suitable options become available. I will call on my employer or fund manager and encourage them to provide such options. If I intend to engage in shareholder advocacy, I am retaining a small share for that purpose.
The Clean Power Plan: Clean Power, Clear Savings
The EPA Clean Power Plan Will Cut State Electricity Bills
A new series of reports by Public Citizen shows that consumers will see lower electricity bills under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s plan to cut carbon pollution.
In June 2014, the EPA introduced a proposal to curb carbon pollution from existing power plants, a critical step to address climate change in the U.S. The proposal, dubbed the Clean Power Plan, asks each state to design its own strategy to achieve carbon reduction targets by 2030 and is expected to be finalized by August 2015.
The EPA rule will require states to reduce their carbon pollution – providing them an opportunity to not only fight climate disruption, but to lower electricity costs for consumers and boost their economies.
Our valued "friend" Friends of the Earth is conducting this important initiative with regard to the TPP. (While this is not an ECA official platform item, we support this action and encourage our members to take part.)
The House version of the so-called “Customs Act,” which modifies the Fast Track bill, would explicitly prevent the Obama Administration from even considering the climate crisis as it negotiates the TPP and other trade deals.
