TAKE ACTION WITH MOMS CLEAN AIR FORCE. TELL CONGRESS: ELECTRIC BUSES ARE THE SMART WAY TO GET TO SCHOOL – SUPPORT THE CLEAN SCHOOL BUS ACT
Every day, millions of our children and grandchildren ride school buses with dirty diesel engines, adding to the air pollution that makes climate change worse and causes a wide range of health issues, including asthma attacks and cancer. And diesel pollution can get trapped inside the school bus; the children breathe in harmful fumes as they ride to and from school. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (NV), Senator Patty Murray (WA), Representative Johana Hayes (CT-05), and Representative Tony Cardenas (CA-29) have introduced the Clean School Bus Act that will support the swift transition of diesel school buses to 100% clean electric power.prioritizing grants to school districts serving environmental justice communities and communities with poor air quality. Our partners at Moms Clean Air Force have prepared a letter you can send. Sign on here.
EcoChallenge — It’s Game On! Join the Team!
Really, it is a “game” called “Drawdown EcoChallenge” that all can participate in while helping the planet. Join as an individual or team; the impact of your actions will be automatically calculated and made available to you and your partners, so we can all see the beneficial effect of our actions. Volunteers from Unitarian Universalist Ministry For Earth (UUMFE) and Elders Climate Action (ECA) have customized our own EcoChallenge to include actions that you may choose as important to you. Sign up here to join the ECA team and start scoring points for our team and the climate. Sign up ASAP the EcoChallenge event will run until June 30.
AND FINALLY, AN INDIVIDUAL ACTION YOU CAN TAKE: COMMIT TO TAKE FEWER FLIGHTS THIS YEAR.
On Earth Day our hearts are with our children and grandchildren and future generations, and many of us are planning to travel to visit loved ones. But air travel produces massive greenhouse gas emissions, and for now, technology does not have easy answers to reduce them. When flying is your only option, then fly, but commit to reduce the number of your flights. Consider alternatives like trains and buses. ECA does not endorse carbon offsets as an answer to the Climate Crisis, but when air travel is your only option, consider buying them. Learn more here.
