Webinar 1: Elders Declare a Climate Emergency with Climate Mobilization Project

Margaret Klein Salamon, Ezra Silk and Rebecca Harris join us for an interactive presentation about the Climate Emergency, and what you can do about it. In this webinar, you will learn from climate psychologist Margaret Klein Salamon’s groundbreaking work on moving society into “emergency mode”  to tackle the climate crisis. You will also hear about the Climate Emergency Campaign, which has engaged hundreds of people in pushing their cities and counties to declare a Climate Emergency.  You will also receive additional resources from The Climate Mobilization to explore launching your own local Climate Emergency push.

Spring Into Action 2019 – Spring Webinar Series

For this Webinar Series you will hear from national experts and activists including the youth who will change the world through their activism; Project Drawdown which is the most comprehensive response to climate change; and hear proposed energy policies that can lead us to a low carbon future. You will not be disappointed in the spring webinar series.

Webinar 1: Special Guest Speaker Crystal Chissell, Vice President of Operations and Engagement at Project Drawdown.

Project Drawdown is the most comprehensive plan ever proposed to reverse global warming. “We did not make or devise the plan—the plan exists and is being implemented worldwide. It has been difficult to envision this possibility because the focus is overwhelmingly on the impacts of climate change. We gathered a qualified and diverse group of researchers from around the world to identify, research, and model the 100 most substantive, existing solutions to address climate change. What was uncovered is a path forward that can roll back global greenhouse gas emissions within thirty years. The research revealed that humanity has the means and techniques at hand. Nothing new needs to be invented, yet many more solutions are coming due to purposeful human ingenuity. The solutions we modeled are in place and in action. Humanity’s task is to accelerate the knowledge and growth of what is possible as soon as possible.” Crystal will discuss how elders can make an impact in their own community and at the federal level.  Read Crystal’s bio www.drawdown.org

Webinar 2:  Special Guest Speaker Robbie Orvis is Director of Energy Policy Design at Energy Innovation, where he works on the firm’s Energy Policy Solutions and Power Sector Transformation programs and is co-author of Designing Climate Solutions: A Policy Guide for Low-Carbon Energy.

Designing Climate Solutions: A Policy Guide for Low-Carbon Energy “combines the latest research and analysis on low-carbon energy solutions from electric vehicles to renewable energy. It is the first book to identify which specific policies, applied to the top 20 most-emitting countries, can have the largest potential impact to reduce emissions enough for a 50% chance of keeping global warming to a safe level.

And, it is the first outline of which shared policy design principles can make the difference between policies that work and policies that miss their goal.” Read Robbie’s bio

Webinar 3: With a Special Guest Panel Discussion with Youth Climate Advocates from the Youth Climate Movement

A number of Youth Climate Organizations are mobilizing kids to take action on climate change.  In this panel discussion we will include youth climate allies including Alex Loznak from Our Children’s Trust, Varshini Prakash from Sunrise Movement, Jerome Foster II from The Climate Reporter, Lia Harel from iMatter and Arielle Martinez Cohen from Zero Hour.

Hear from this former congressman’s work to educate the country about free-enterprise solutions to climate change. Inglis believes that with a true level playing field, free enterprise can deliver the innovation to solve climate change. But America’s climate policy needs to change. Change requires that conservative leaders step-up and lead. Learn some of the best strategies for reaching across the aisle to communicate about climate change especially when addressing skeptics. Read Full Bio.

The second part of this webinar is a panel discussion and presentations by elders who have stepped up and started Elders Climate Action chapters in three very different parts of the country.  Hear how they inspired others to join our movement of elders acting for future generations and what initiatives these very different chapters in different parts of the country are pursuing.

Following Nathaniel Stinnett’s discussion of the issues, Elders Climate Action will launch our Candidates Pledge Climate Action project.
