We are climate activists who are propelled to action by the science, critical timeline and complex interrelationships of the climate crisis. We believe elders in the Twin Cities area and beyond can bring our unique power and inspiration to this global effort by using our wisdom and life experience to transform anxiety into organizing and action. Our chapter has a strong focus on green awareness, environmental justice, and intergenerational solutions.

Members work collaboratively to guide the direction of the chapter. Our monthly meetings provide a welcoming home base for education, member discussions, legislative/policy updates, and action planning.  We also hold other educational events, including book discussions, video watch parties, and participation in events and actions offered through our partners.  We regularly foster partnerships with other climate action groups, such as MN350 and Climate Generation, and contribute to their efforts.

Our goal is to focus on one or two specific efforts for climate change each quarter, aiming to take at least one collective, public action during that period. Other individual and group initiatives related to addressing the climate crisis are also encouraged. We draw on the many resources of the national ECA and the Elders Action Network and work to integrate our efforts with their larger initiatives.

Pat Samples and Kathryn Ringham are Twin Cities Chapter co-leaders, handling chapter administration, coordinating team efforts, working with the ECA national initiatives, and helping members to be successful with their targeted initiatives.  Our backgrounds in gerontology and advocacy provide a foundation for championing creative approaches to the climate crisis and aging.

We hope you’ll join us!
