Why Methane Matters and What You Can Do with Celerah Hewes from Moms Clean Air Force and Grace Smith from Environmental Defense Fund.
Cutting methane pollution is one of the greatest levers we have to quickly slow the impacts of climate change. Celerah will talk about why cutting methane is such an important opportunity, how it impacts our health, and how you can participate in the current EPA methane comment period that ends February 13, 2023. And Attorney, Grace Smith will join the Q&A session to help answer questions concerning state level implementation.
 | As the Moms Clean Air Force Program Manager for Campaigns, Celerah Hewes works directly with key oil and gas states, as well as on national legislation that will protect families from pollution and climate change. Celerah started with Moms Clean Air Force in 2017 as the New Mexico Field Consultant. For five years, she worked to establish Moms Clean Air Force as a voice for parents around the state concerned with the health impacts of climate change. She worked with coalition groups to support Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s call for nation-leading state methane and ozone rules and has testified numerous times at the Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Management and Budget, and other federal agencies on issues including methane, clean car standards, toxic chemicals, and environmental justice. She was a panelist at the EPA’s 2021 methane comment period training session for frontline communities, a member of the national Methane Partners Campaign, and has facilitated meetings with parents and their elected officials to advocate for climate action, public health, clean energy, air quality regulations, and plastic reduction. |
