Winter Workshop Series – Local Climate Policy: You Can Change It

November 17, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm EST

The Series.  The ECA Education Committee will host these workshops to equip and inspire you to influence government and corporate climate policies in your community, and at the state and federal levels.  Whether you are an experienced advocate for change or new to this important work, YOU have the power and ability to be influential.  YOUR unique skills, built over a lifetime, are needed to create the future we want for our children and grandchildren.   Whether you can commit just 30 minutes or 30 hours, your actions can produce change.

November 17 – LOCAL CLIMATE POLICY: You Can Change it. You will hear from ECA members who have influenced local policies on everything from compost collection to climate emergency campaigns. City politicians, both Democratic and Republican, will discuss the types of advocates who are most effective at getting their attention, and what messages are most influential for gaining their support.

November 17, 6:30 – 8 PM (ET) | 3:30 – 5 PM (PT)

ECA is proud to offer our workshops for free, with a suggested donation of $25.00 for the series. ECA relies on your contributions to continue to provide climate-related programming directly to elders. You can make a donation when you register, and consider making it a monthly gift!

Each 90-minute workshop features a different level of government and corporate engagement, from local policy in November, state policy in December, to federal policy in January.

    • Learn from a diverse panel of ECA influencers, elected officials, and other citizen activists to discern a need for climate policy change and identify your target.
    • Gain ideas about how to find your allies, understand your opposition, build an action plan and team, and engage with policymakers.
    • Leave each workshop armed with new expertise, an understanding of climate justice, and the value of diverse coalitions.

Upcoming Webinars

December 15th  Workshop. Hear from ECA members and others who have influenced state climate policies in Arizona, Maryland, and the Mississippi River Basin. You will learn about the unique challenges for climate policy in different states, and how to time your efforts to have the most influence.
January 19th  Workshop. ECA members and others working at the national level will share their experiences in contributing to the Vision for Equitable Climate Action and the Congressional THRIVE Agenda (Transform, Heal, and Renew by Investing in a Vibrant Economy). You will learn how to set your priorities and target your efforts to have the most influence.

Please Invite a Friend. Influencing policy is most gratifying with partners who are as committed and well-prepared as you.  We encourage all workshop participants to bring friends. Together you will form the core of your policy team.  And you will help Elders Climate Action to grow and become ever more powerful.  We now have over 14,000 members and our goal is to double our membership in 2021. You can help us!

And Please Share With an Organization. You can help further build ECA by sharing this announcement with a local group—your place of worship, a local chapter of an environmental/climate organization like Citizens Climate Lobby or Sierra Club, or even your bowling buddies or CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) group! ECA is always looking for effective allies with whom we can partner in our mission to save our planet for the future.
