Action Though Our Dollars: Exploring B Corporations with Special Guest Speakers Dr. Ellonda L. Williams & Dr. Christoper Marquis.

 

Dr. Ellonda L. Williams is the Director of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion at B Lab, a non-profit organization that has a vision of an inclusive and sustainable economy that creates a shared prosperity for all, serving a global movement of people using business as a force for good. In her role, she works to create an equitable, diverse and inclusive culture for all employees.

For the past decade, Dr. Williams has been focusing her professional work on development, equity and connecting resources to people who are underprivileged, under-represented and under-served. Staying local to her hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ellonda received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services and Psychological Studies from the University of Pittsburgh and later continued her education at Strayer University, obtaining her Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership & Management. Dr. Williams later completed her doctorate degree at Capella University with a concentration in Educational Leadership & Management. Utilizing her research findings, in conjunction with top research in the field today, she coined a workshop entitled, “Improving Bias and Micro-Messaging as Experienced by Women Leaders”. She is a proponent of the advancement of women, disadvantaged and marginalized people from all walks of life.

 

Dr. Christopher Marquis (https://www.chrismarquis.com/) is the Samuel C. Johnson Professor in Sustainable Global Enterprise at Cornell University. His research and writing focus on how businesses are creating a more resilient and sustainable capitalism by focusing on the elusive triple bottom line of environmental, social and financial performance. Prior to joining Cornell, he worked for 10 years at Harvard Business School where he developed an award-winning course on social entrepreneurship. He is the author of more than 20 peer-reviewed academic articles and more than 50 Harvard business cases on topics related to sustainable business, and has earned awards for scholarly achievement from the Academy of Management and the American Sociological Association. Marquis earned a PhD in sociology and business administration from the University of Michigan. He lives in New York City.
